Derek is an indie-folk musician with a stripped-down musical style and a passionate storytelling angle.
His music and songwriting explore the challenges of moving forward after loss and hardship and confronting societal changes amidst modern realities of ongoing distraction, and our ability to remain present.
Derek accompanies a raw vocal styling with acoustic guitar or piano, and occasionally the odd banjo and harmonica break.
He often takes brief opportunities to give his audience the story “behind the song” as he plays – ultimately, hoping that his music and its lyrical origins will land therapeutically with his listeners. Whether through providing relatability, or simply – hope.
